George Washington Carver was a scientist and inventor who transformed agriculture in the south. Carver devised over 100 products using the peanut crop, including dyes, plastics and gasoline. In his role as a researcher at the Tuskegee institute he devised new methods of crop rotation and the development of alternative cash crops for farmers in areas heavily planted with cotton. ​
